Hi! I'm currently the Operations Manager for the Master of Engineering in Telecommunications (MET) program in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, at the University of Toronto. I've been with the MET program since June 1999 and in the ECE department since December 1976, during the pre-computer time. Ah yes, those were the days. Not!
I was born not so very long ago, really: it was October 30, 1956 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Yup! I'm a Bluenoser... I'm number 5 of 7 children. Let me see... there's Susanne, Michael, Christine, Roy, little ol' me, Theresa, and Patricia. My parents are Roy Suthers Sr. and Betty Suthers (nee Tierney).
During the summer of 1961, I was 4 then, my parents and all seven children moved to Sydney, British Columbia. You see, my father was in the Canadian Navy and was transferred to the west coast. The move was a lot of fun! Although I'm sure my parents didn't think so. Imagine, 7 children between the ages of 1-12 years travelling in 1 car. My mother had to break up many backseat fights, and we all had to put up with my sister, Terry's, imaginary friend Iggy (a giant) who followed us to BC, hiding behind trees whenever one of us tried to see him. I must say, it's one great way to see the countries (Canada and USA).
In 1964 my grandfather, Walter, died and so my parents decided to make another major move back to Ontario. This time we had a van for the trip east. My parents settled in Burlington, Ontario and haven't moved since. Who blames them?
I married Derrick Espeut February 25, 1977. We have three children: Patrick Derrick (born 1977), Nicole Leigh (born 1978) and Lindsay Marie (born 1983). Oh, yeah! We also have 2 cats named Pepper and Baby (couldn't think of a name for her).
Since January 1996, my family has been researching the Suthers Family Tree. We've found that most of the Suthers can trace their family roots back to Todmorden, Yorkshire. I must say thanks to Steve Suthers, in Australia, for compiling some family trees. Check them out in the Suthers Home Page.
