The real decentralized fixed mode radius of LTI systems
Simon Lam and Edward J. Davison
Abstract
In this paper, a formula for computing the real decentralized fixed mode radius and real unstable
decentralized fixed mode radius for a linear time-invariant system is presented. These results give
a measure of how "near" a decentralized LTI system is from having an unstable decentralized fixed
mode (DFM) present, and are important in application problems where decentralized control is typically
used, e.g. in chemical process control, transportation problems, electric power systems, etc. A
number of representative industrial system examples are given in the paper to illustrate the type of
results that can be obtained.
