Abstract
********
Control of spatiotemporal chaos is spatially extended systems are
among of the most challenging topics. Spatially extended systems
are modeled by partial differential equations, coupled ordinary
differential equations, or coupled map lattices. This paper focus
on description of new progress in nonlinear control methods for
spatiotemporal chaos in high-dimensional spatially extended systems,
including our recent work on nonlinear control of halo-chaos in
the linacs and coupled map lattices, along with some comments.
Simple control methods for control of chaos in lower-dimensional
systems may be generalized to some spatially extended systems with
only one unstable state but they usually fail to apply to those
systems with multiple unstable states. Therefore nonlinear control
methods have to be developed and became one of the most important
research direction for control of spatiotemporal chaos. Further
research outlook and comments are given finally.
