and Personal Wireless Communications |
It is our pleasure to invite you to the ISCPWC'99
in conjunction with DYCONS99 to be held in Ottawa, Canada. Ottawa
is Canada's leading center for high technology research and development,
is a clean, green and safe city that offers the joie de vivre and local
charm of a small town while providing all the excitement of a modern,
cosmopolitan center and a national capital.
A significant amount of research has been conducted in the field of wireless communication systems in recent years. The efforts have been especially concentrated for adding the data communications and multi-media communications capabilities, such as the IS-95 and GSM systems, to the existing wireless communication systems. A number of CDMA proposals for third generation wireless communication systems have been submitted to the ITU as candidates Radio Transmission Technologies for IMT-2000. The TR45 subcommittee of the TIA and ETSI are among those who have submitted their proposals (CDMA2000 and UTRA) to the ITU. These third generation systems will provide multi-media communications, and will be able to support advanced applications and services. The CDMA2000 system provides these services through significant changes to the IS-95 physical layer, and adds many new features, such as, fast forward power control, a coherent reverse link, and transmit diversity, etc. Although CDMA2000 system is meant to provide a graceful evolution from the existing second generation IS-95 system, the UTRA system represents a large departure in the physical layer from ETSI's GSM second generation system. The new changes introduced in these systems, such as fast forward power control, transmit diversity, and Turbo codes as forward error correcting codes, etc. have brought about new challenges and new topics for research. The aim of this mini-symposium is to address these recent developments in the field of wireless communications especially with respect to the third and next generation wireless communication systems. In addition to technical presentations, panel discussions by leading authorities are planned.
